The chef, Rafaele Esposito, created a new pizza for the queen using the colors of the Italian flag - tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and herbs. The queen loved this pizza, and it became known as the Pizza Margherita. It then became the most popular pizza style in Naples and served as the basic model for modern pizza.
