Bette Jo Mahoney, 92-year-old lifetime Craig County resident, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021, at Heartsworth Senior Living in Vinita. She was born on May 20, 1929, in Big Cabin to Joseph Robert Wyatt and Nancy Matilda (Wilkie) Wyatt. Bette was a 1947, graduate of Big Cabin High School. She married the love of her life John Mahoney, Sr. on September 11, 1950, in Vinita at the First United Methodist Church. She owned and operated Hair Fashion Beauty Salon in Vinita for a time before selling it to Dixie Kay. Bette was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation and the First United Methodist Church of Vinita. She was highly active in the Democratic Party for many years and was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mahoney, Sr. and nine siblings.The family includes, her two sons, John Mahoney, Jr. of Waikoloa, Hawaii, Timothy Pat Mahoney of Vinita, three grandchildren, Michelle Mahoney, Eric Mahoney and Sean Mahoney, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives as well. The graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Skip McClain officiating. Online condolences may be made at or on the funeral home Facebook page. Arrangements are under the care of the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral and Cremation Services of Vinita.
